Herdetiden, also known as the Herding Age, is a period in Scandinavian history that spans from the end of the Viking Age around 1050 AD to the beginning of the Middle Ages in the 13th century. This era is characterized by significant changes in societal structure, technology, and culture. The name "Herdetiden" translates to "the Herding Time," reflecting the shift from the more mobile and raiding-based society of the Viking Age to a more settled, agricultural, and pastoral way of life.
