Hercules Corona is a minor planet located in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It is a small, elliptical body with a diameter of approximately 78 kilometers. The asteroid was discovered in 1976 by Nikolai Chernykh, a Soviet astronomer, at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Ukraine.

Hercules Corona has a highly inclined orbit, which takes it as close as 2.1 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun and as far as 3.8 AU from the Sun. One astronomical unit is the average distance between the Earth and the Sun. This unique orbit causes the asteroid to experience extreme variations in temperature as it moves closer and farther from the Sun.

Despite its small size, Hercules Corona has been the subject of several studies aimed at understanding the composition and structure of asteroids. Spectroscopic analysis has revealed that the asteroid is composed primarily of silicate minerals, which are common in rocky asteroids. However, the exact composition of the asteroid's surface and interior is still not well understood.

Hercules Corona has a surface albedo, or brightness, of around 0.2-0.3, indicating that it is moderately reflective. The asteroid's rotation period is approximately 5.3 hours, suggesting a relatively fast spin rate. Further study of Hercules Corona and other small bodies in the asteroid belt can provide valuable insights into the early history and formation of our solar system.
