Hemodialyysissä

Hemodialyysissä is the Finnish term for hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is a medical treatment that filters and purifies the blood using a machine. This process is necessary when a person's kidneys are no longer able to adequately perform these functions. The kidneys are vital organs responsible for removing waste products, excess fluid, and electrolytes from the blood. When kidney function declines significantly, these substances can build up in the body, leading to serious health problems.

During hemodialysis, blood is drawn from the patient's body and passed through an artificial kidney, called a dialyzer. The dialyzer contains a special filter that separates waste products and excess fluid from the blood. The cleaned blood is then returned to the patient's body. This procedure typically takes place in a dialysis center, although some patients may receive home hemodialysis.

The frequency and duration of hemodialysis treatments vary depending on the individual's condition. Most people require hemodialysis three times a week, with each session lasting several hours. Hemodialysis is a life-sustaining treatment for individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), also known as kidney failure. While it does not cure kidney disease, it effectively manages the symptoms and complications associated with it, allowing individuals to live longer and healthier lives.
