Helsinkiclass
The Helsingiclass is a class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) operated by the Finnish Navy. The class consists of two submarines, the Helsingin and the Turku, both of which were built by the Finnish shipyard Rauma Repola. The Helsingiclass submarines are designed to carry a variety of nuclear and conventional missiles, including the RGM-84 Harpoon and the RGM-84E Harpoon Block II. The submarines are equipped with advanced sonar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities, allowing them to operate effectively in a range of environments. The Helsingiclass submarines are a significant part of Finland's defense strategy, providing a deterrent capability and enhancing the country's ability to project power in the Baltic Sea and beyond. The submarines are expected to remain in service until at least 2040, with a potential for an extension to 2050. The Helsingiclass submarines are a key component of Finland's nuclear deterrent, and their continued operation is a critical aspect of the country's defense policy.
