Heeze

Heeze is a village located in the southern Netherlands, within the province of North Brabant. It is part of the municipality of Heeze-Leende, which was formed in 1997 through the merger of the former municipalities of Heeze, Leende, and Zesgehuchten. Heeze is situated in a region known for its natural beauty, characterized by sandy soils, heathlands, and forests, particularly the vast Strabrechtse Heide.

Historically, Heeze was a free lordship, meaning it was not subject to a higher feudal lord. This status contributed to its development and the presence of notable historical sites. The most prominent among these is Slot Heeze, a castle that has undergone significant restoration and is a well-known landmark. The village itself has a pleasant, semi-rural character, with a main street that offers various amenities for residents and visitors.

Economically, Heeze has traditionally been a center for agriculture and small industries. In more recent times, it has also become a residential area, with many inhabitants commuting to nearby larger cities like Eindhoven for work. The village is well-connected by road and rail, facilitating accessibility. Heeze is also known for its annual "Paardenmarkt" (Horse Market), a traditional event that draws crowds and showcases local heritage. The presence of natural recreational areas like the Strabrechtse Heide makes it a popular destination for walking and cycling.
