Hauptminerals refers to the primary or most abundant minerals found within a rock. These are the minerals that give a rock its characteristic appearance and composition, and they are typically present in larger quantities than accessory minerals. The identification and relative abundance of hauptminerals are crucial for classifying rocks and understanding their geological origins and properties. For example, in granite, quartz, feldspar, and mica are considered hauptminerals, defining its felsic nature.
