Határtermelékenységétl, often translated as marginal productivity, is a core concept in economics. It refers to the additional output produced by adding one more unit of a particular input, such as labor or capital, while holding all other inputs constant. For example, if a factory hires an additional worker and produces 10 more widgets, the marginal productivity of that worker is 10 widgets.

This concept is crucial for understanding how firms make production decisions. Firms aim to hire inputs up to the point where the marginal productivity of the input equals its cost. If the cost of an additional unit of input is less than the value of the output it generates (its marginal revenue product), the firm will likely hire more of that input. Conversely, if the cost exceeds the generated value, the firm will reduce its use.

The law of diminishing marginal returns states that as more units of a variable input are added to a fixed set of other inputs, the marginal productivity of the variable input will eventually decrease. This means that while adding more workers might initially increase output significantly, at some point, each additional worker will contribute less to total output than the previous one due to overcrowding, limited equipment, or other constraints.
