Harjainen

Harjainen is a former Finnish municipality located in the province of Western Finland and part of the region of Central Finland. The municipality covered an area of approximately 148 square kilometers and had a population density of about 11 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Harjainen was a small community situated in the Tikkaus Valley in the Souhajärvi Township of the municipality. The area was predominantly agricultural in nature, with a strong focus on forestry and wood industry. The township was also known for its natural resources, including several large lakes, such as the Souhajärvi lake.

In 2007, Harjainen was consolidated with other nearby municipalities to form the Suolahti town. The town was established to provide a more efficient and populous administrative unit for the surrounding population. As a result, the infrastructure and services of Harjainen were integrated into the new Suolahti town.

Today, the Harjainen area remains a part of Suolahti, retaining its natural charm and rustic character. The community continues to be an important agricultural and forestry hub, serving the regional wood industry and supporting local farming businesses. While Harjainen is no longer a standalone municipality, it remains an integral part of the community and local heritage.
