Hansard is the name given to the official report of parliamentary debates in the United Kingdom and many other Commonwealth countries. It is named after the Hansard family, who were printers and publishers in the 18th century. Thomas Hansard began printing reports of parliamentary proceedings in 1803, and the name has since become synonymous with the verbatim record of what is said in the legislature.
