Hankinson

Hankinson is a city located in Richland County, North Dakota, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state. The city is part of the Wahpeton micropolitan statistical area. As of the 2020 census, the population of Hankinson was 560.

The area was first settled in the 1880s, and the townsite was platted in 1884. It was named after Frank Hankinson, a railroad official. Hankinson grew as a trading center for the surrounding agricultural community. The arrival of the railroad was a key factor in its development, facilitating the transport of grain and other goods.
