Haloalkohol
Haloalkohol, also known as halogenated alcohols, are organic compounds that contain both a hydroxyl group (-OH) and a halogen atom (such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine) attached to an alkyl chain. The position of the halogen atom relative to the hydroxyl group determines the specific type of haloalkohol. For example, if the halogen and hydroxyl are on the same carbon atom, it is called a geminal haloalkohol. If they are on adjacent carbon atoms, it is a vicinal haloalkohol.
These compounds are often synthesized through the addition of hypohalous acids or halogens to alkenes. Haloalkohols
