These tests help identify hearing loss, determine its severity and type, and monitor changes in hearing over time. They are conducted by audiologists and can be performed in various settings, from specialized clinics to general medical practices.

There are several types of hallásvizsgálatok. Pure-tone audiometry is a common method that determines the softest sounds a person can hear at different frequencies. This involves presenting tones through headphones and asking the patient to indicate when they hear them. Tympanometry measures the function of the middle ear and the eardrum's movement in response to air pressure changes. Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) test the function of the inner ear's hair cells by measuring the soft sounds the cochlea produces in response to sound stimulation. Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing assesses the auditory pathway from the cochlea to the brainstem.
