Halbsynchroner
Halbsynchroner, or half-synchronizer, is a term used in the context of manual transmissions to describe a type of synchronizer that provides only partial speed synchronization during gear engagement. It sits in the gear hub assembly and interacts with the gear sleeve to reduce, but not fully eliminate, the speed difference between gear and shaft when a gear is selected.
In a fully synchronized transmission, the synchronizer and friction surfaces bring the gear and shaft up to
Halbsynchronizers were more common in older or budget transmissions, where implementing full synchronization for every gear
Today, many modern transmissions use fully synchronized gearsets throughout, and the use of halbsynchronizers has diminished.
