Halbrund

Halbrund is a half-round profile or shape used in carpentry, metalworking, and design. The term refers to a cross-section that is a semicircle; when used as a decorative or functional edge, it provides a curved surface along the length. Halbrund profiles are common in mouldings, trim, rails, stair nosings, and furniture components; they can be found as halbrundleiste, halbrundprofil, or as half-round rods or bars. Materials include wood, metal, and plastic. In woodworking, a halbrund edge is produced by planing or routing a straight edge, or by turning to create the rounded profile; in metalwork and plastics, extrusion, casting, or rolling can form the half-round cross-section.

The term originates from German Halb (half) and Rund (round). In architectural contexts, halbrund profiles appear in cornices, door and window casings, and furniture with curved edge details. It is often used to soften transitions between surfaces or to accentuate a line with a single continuous curve.
