Hagbart
Hagbart is a character from the Old English epic poem Beowulf. He is the king of the Geats, a tribe that resides in the southern part of Sweden. Hagbart is known for his wisdom and his role in the events leading up to the arrival of the hero Beowulf. Hagbart is described as a man of great age and experience, and he is often depicted as a mentor figure to Beowulf. In the poem, Hagbart advises Beowulf on how to approach the dragon Grendel and his mother, and he also provides Beowulf with a sword to aid him in his quest. Despite his wisdom and guidance, Hagbart ultimately does not survive the encounter with Grendel's mother, as he is killed in the battle. His death serves as a reminder of the dangers that Beowulf will face in his quest to protect his people. Hagbart's character is an important part of the Beowulf narrative, as he represents the wisdom and experience that can be gained from the past.
