Hadis

Hadith, also spelled Hadis or Hadiz, refers to the recorded sayings, actions, and approvals of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. These traditions form a crucial second source of Islamic law and guidance, complementing the Quran. The collection and authentication of hadith have been a significant undertaking by Muslim scholars throughout history, who meticulously examined the chain of transmission (isnad) and the content (matn) of each report.

The hadith literature is vast and categorized into various collections, with the Six Major Books (Kutub al-Sittah) being the most prominent. These include Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan al-Nasa'i, Sunan Abi Dawud, Jami al-Tirmidhi, and Sunan Ibn Majah. Scholars classify hadith based on their authenticity, ranging from sahih (authentic) to da'if (weak) and mawdu' (fabricated).

The study of hadith involves understanding its historical context, linguistic nuances, and the biographical details of its narrators. This rigorous process ensures that the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad are accurately preserved and transmitted to Muslims.
