Hadassahs

Hadassah is a women's Zionist organization and the largest women's organization in the United States. Founded in 1912 by Henrietta Szold, its initial mission was to provide medical and public health services in Palestine, then under Ottoman rule. The name "Hadassah" is a Hebrew name for the biblical Queen Esther, who was known for her courage and advocacy for her people.

The organization's early work focused on establishing hospitals and public health initiatives in the Yishuv, the Jewish community in Palestine. This included the development of a nurses' training school and a network of clinics. Over time, Hadassah's activities expanded to include social services, education, and advocacy for women and children.

Today, Hadassah continues its commitment to health and well-being through its medical centers in Israel, including the renowned Hadassah Medical Organization. It also engages in advocacy for women's health, social justice, and peace. The organization has a significant membership base across the United States and maintains a strong connection to Israel. Hadassah's work is multifaceted, encompassing healthcare, education, and community building.
