HDMIfunktsioone, often referred to as HDMI functions, encompasses the various capabilities and features provided by the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) standard. This interface is primarily used for transmitting uncompressed digital video and compressed or uncompressed digital audio from a source device, such as a Blu-ray player or gaming console, to a display device, like a monitor or television.

One fundamental function is its ability to support high-definition video resolutions, including 1080p and 4K, and even higher resolutions like 8K. Beyond just video and audio, HDMI also incorporates features like Consumer Electronics Control (CEC). CEC allows devices connected via HDMI to control each other. For example, turning on a Blu-ray player might automatically switch the TV to the correct input and power it on.

Another significant function is the support for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), a copy protection protocol that prevents the unauthorized copying of digital media. Different versions of HDMI, such as HDMI 1.4, 2.0, and 2.1, introduce progressively enhanced functions. For instance, HDMI 2.1 supports features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for smoother gaming, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for improved gaming responsiveness, and enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) for higher quality audio transmission. The specific functions available depend on the HDMI version supported by both the source and display devices.
