H2St
H2St refers to hydrogen sulfide, a chemical compound with the formula H₂S. It is a colorless gas known for its characteristic rotten egg smell, even at very low concentrations. Hydrogen sulfide is highly toxic, flammable, and corrosive. It occurs naturally in volcanic gases, hot springs, and as a byproduct of the decomposition of organic matter containing sulfur by bacteria, particularly in anaerobic conditions. Industrial processes also produce H₂S, such as petroleum refining, wastewater treatment, and the production of certain chemicals.
Due to its toxicity, H₂S poses a significant health hazard. Exposure can cause irritation to the eyes
