H264AVCtä, often referred to as AVC (Advanced Video Coding) or H.264, is a video compression standard. It was developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) as the two organizations' collaborative project. This standard is widely used for video transmission and storage, particularly for streaming media, Blu-ray discs, and digital television broadcasting. Its primary goal is to provide high-quality video compression at a lower bitrate than previous standards, making it efficient for a variety of bandwidth-constrained applications.

The H.264/AVC standard achieves its compression efficiency through a combination of prediction techniques. These include inter-frame prediction, which exploits temporal redundancy between consecutive frames, and intra-frame prediction, which exploits spatial redundancy within a single frame. It also employs transform coding, quantization, and entropy coding to further reduce the data rate.
