Hörselkåpor

Hörselkåpor, also known as earmuffs or ear defenders, are devices designed to protect the wearer's hearing from loud noises. They consist of two earcups, typically padded with foam or gel, that cover the entire ear. These earcups are held in place by a band that goes over the head, or sometimes by a strap that goes around the back of the head. The primary function of hörselkåpor is to create a seal around the ear, significantly reducing the amount of sound that can reach the eardrum.

The effectiveness of hörselkåpor is measured by their Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) or Single Number Rating (SNR), which indicates how much sound attenuation they provide. Higher NRR/SNR values mean greater protection. They are commonly used in industrial settings, construction sites, shooting ranges, and during activities that generate high noise levels, such as lawn mowing or operating power tools. Regular use of appropriate hearing protection like hörselkåpor is crucial in preventing noise-induced hearing loss, which can be permanent. They are available in various designs, including passive models that rely solely on their physical construction for noise blocking, and active models that incorporate electronics to allow for communication or amplification of quieter sounds while still suppressing loud noises.
