Höjdinformationen, often translated as elevation data or height information, refers to the representation of the vertical dimension of geographic features. This data is crucial in various fields, including geography, surveying, cartography, engineering, and environmental science. It describes how the land surface varies in height above a reference datum, typically mean sea level.

The most common formats for height information include Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). DEMs are raster datasets where each cell's value represents the elevation at that specific location. They can be derived from various sources, such as aerial photogrammetry, satellite imagery (e.g., using radar interferometry), and ground-based surveying techniques like LiDAR. Contour lines on topographic maps are another form of visualizing height information, representing lines of equal elevation.

Understanding height information allows for detailed analysis of terrain. It is used for tasks like calculating slopes, determining water flow direction, planning infrastructure projects, assessing landslide risks, and creating 3D visualizations of landscapes.
