Gázvezetés, often translated as gas conduction or gas transport, refers to the movement of gas molecules through a medium. This can occur in various contexts, including within solid materials, porous media, or even in the vacuum of space. The primary driving force for gas conduction is typically a pressure gradient, where gas moves from an area of higher pressure to an area of lower pressure. However, other factors such as temperature gradients (thermal diffusion) and concentration gradients can also induce gas movement.

In materials science, gas conduction is a critical property influencing the performance of membranes, insulation materials, and protective coatings. For instance, low gas permeability is desirable in thermal insulation to prevent heat transfer by gas molecules. In porous materials like soil or rock, gas conduction plays a role in processes such as groundwater recharge and the migration of subsurface contaminants. The rate of gas conduction is governed by properties of the gas itself, such as its viscosity and molecular weight, and the characteristics of the medium it is traversing, including pore size, tortuosity, and surface interactions.
