Gázszivattyúzás, also known as gas pumping, refers to the process of moving natural gas through a pipeline network. This is achieved using compressor stations strategically located along the pipeline. These stations house powerful compressors that increase the pressure of the gas, enabling it to flow over long distances. The pressure difference created by the compressors is the driving force for gas movement.

The process begins with natural gas entering the pipeline from extraction points or storage facilities. As the gas travels, it encounters friction and loses pressure. Compressor stations act as boosters, taking in the gas, compressing it to a higher pressure, and then injecting it back into the pipeline. This continuous cycle of compression ensures that the gas maintains sufficient velocity and pressure to reach its destination, whether it be a power plant, industrial facility, or residential distribution network.

Factors influencing the need for gázszivattyúzás include the distance of the pipeline, the terrain, the diameter of the pipe, and the required flow rate. In mountainous or rugged areas, more frequent or powerful compressor stations may be necessary. Similarly, pipelines designed for high volumes of gas will require robust compression systems. The efficiency and reliability of these compressor stations are critical for the uninterrupted supply of natural gas. Energy is consumed to power the compressors, and optimizing their operation is an important aspect of natural gas transportation economics and environmental considerations.
