Gyulafehérvár

Gyulafehérvár, known in Romanian as Alba Iulia and in German as Weißenburg, is a city located in the Transylvania region of Romania. It is the county seat of Alba County. The city is situated on the Mureș River and is historically significant, having served as a major administrative, military, and religious center for centuries.

The history of Gyulafehérvár stretches back to Roman times when it was known as Apulum, a significant Dacian settlement and later a Roman castrum. The city played a crucial role during the medieval period, particularly as the capital of the Principality of Transylvania. It was also the site of a major Orthodox church and later the Roman Catholic diocese of Transylvania.
