Gypsumderived

Gypsumderived is a term that generally refers to materials or products originating from gypsum. Gypsum itself is a soft sulfate mineral composed of hydrated calcium sulfate, with the chemical formula CaSO₄·2H₂O. It occurs naturally in large deposits formed by the evaporation of water.

The primary use of gypsum is in the production of plaster of Paris, also known as gypsum plaster. This is achieved by heating gypsum to drive off some of its water molecules, a process called calcination. When mixed with water again, the plaster of Paris rehydrates and hardens, making it useful for casting, molding, and wallboard production.

Therefore, gypsumderived products are those that incorporate gypsum or its calcined form. The most common example is drywall or plasterboard, a building material used for interior walls and ceilings. Other gypsumderived applications include agricultural soil amendments, cement production as a retarder, and in some artistic and medical uses like orthopedic casts.
