Gyógyszertechnológia, often translated as pharmaceutical technology, is the scientific discipline focused on the design, development, and manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. It encompasses a broad range of scientific and engineering principles applied to transform active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) into safe, effective, and stable dosage forms. This includes understanding the physical and chemical properties of drugs and excipients, as well as their interactions.

The primary goal of gyógyszertechnológia is to create drug delivery systems that ensure the correct amount of medication reaches its target site in the body at the appropriate rate and time. This involves selecting suitable excipients (inactive ingredients) such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and lubricants, and optimizing their combinations with the API. Various dosage forms are developed, including tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions, creams, ointments, and injectables, each requiring specific manufacturing processes.

Key areas within pharmaceutical technology include preformulation studies, formulation development, process development and scale-up, analytical method development and validation, and stability testing. Advanced areas involve the development of novel drug delivery systems like controlled-release formulations, nanoparticles, and transdermal patches, aiming to improve therapeutic outcomes and patient compliance. The field is underpinned by strict regulatory guidelines to ensure product quality, safety, and efficacy.
