Gummen

Gummen is a fictional rural municipality in the northern region of the country of Lyria. It covers about 12.4 square kilometers and lies along the Gummel River, characterized by farmland and gentle hills.

As of 2023, the population is about 3,120, giving a low-density rural character. The municipality comprises the central village of Gummen and several smaller hamlets.

The area shows medieval settlement patterns, with the first written mention of Gummen dating from the 13th century. It developed as an agricultural community in the early modern period and gained local self-government in the 19th century.

Economy centers on agriculture, notably dairy farming and cereal crops, complemented by small manufacturing and logistics services. A weekly market and a small textiles workshop sustain local employment; regional transport links connect Gummen to nearby towns.

Gummen operates under a mayor–council system. The municipal council has 13 seats, with four-year terms. The town participates in a regional district and shares services such as waste management and public transportation.

The parish church of St. Martin, dating to the 17th century, is a local landmark. An annual harvest festival and a weekly farmers’ market contribute to community life. Education consists of one primary school; secondary pupils attend a nearby town.

Notable residents are not widely recorded; the town is primarily residential and agricultural.
