Guiscard

Guiscard refers to Robert de Guesclin, a prominent Breton knight and military leader during the Hundred Years' War. He was born in the early 14th century, likely around 1320, into a minor noble family. Despite a difficult and somewhat rebellious youth, he distinguished himself through his exceptional martial prowess and strategic acumen.

Robert de Guesclin gained considerable fame for his campaigns in Brittany and Gascony, often fighting on behalf of the French crown. He was known for his unconventional tactics, particularly his use of ambushes and guerrilla warfare, which earned him the nickname "The Eagle of Brittany" and later "The Black Dog of Brocéliande." His military successes were instrumental in pushing back English influence in France during a period of intense conflict.

He rose through the ranks to become a trusted commander and was eventually appointed Constable of France in 1370 by King Charles V. In this capacity, he led French armies in numerous significant battles and sieges, contributing greatly to the reconquest of territories lost to the English. Guiscard's military career was marked by both victories and defeats, but his enduring legacy is that of a determined and skilled warrior who significantly impacted the course of the Hundred Years' War. He died in 1380.
