Guaceto

Guaceto is a small natural resort located on the Adriatic coast in the province of Brindisi, in the region of Puglia, Italy. It is situated within the boundaries of the town of Carovigno, on the eastern coast of Gargano Peninsula.

The area is characterized by a long beach and a Nature Reserve, which covers approximately 58 hectares. The Guaceto Nature Reserve is protected by the European Union's Habitat Directive, aimed at preserving the natural habitats and unique biodiversity of the region. The reserve is home to various flora and fauna species, including plants such as the Sea Lavender, and animals such as birds, reptiles, and small mammals.

In addition to its natural beauty, Guaceto also holds historical significance. The area was once a fortification site for an old village, with archaeological evidence of ancient settlements in the form of ceramics, tombs, and a tower. This historical background is a testament to the region's rich cultural heritage.

Since the 1990s, Guaceto Nature Reserve has been protected by local authorities through habitat restoration and conservation efforts. This work has included the creation of a garden within the reserve, which uses and reutilizes materials from the local area to raise awareness about environmental sustainability.

The resort area itself, situated within the reserve, offers various facilities and activities to the public, including a convenience store, restaurant, and pool. Visitors can explore the surrounding nature through a network of footpaths and observation areas, providing an opportunity to appreciate the unique ecosystem and unique biodiversity of the area.
