Grundprofil

Grundprofil is a German compound term formed from Grund (base, fundamental) and Profil (profile). In German technical and scientific contexts it is used as a generic label for the basic or starting profile of an object, structure, or dataset. Its exact meaning is context dependent and it does not denote a single universal standard, but rather a descriptive reference point.

In engineering and manufacturing, the Grundprofil often designates the baseline geometry against which changes, tolerances, or wear are measured. Designers may define a Grundprofil to establish a nominal cross-section in drawings or CAD models, from which features are added or removed.
