Grundpriset

Grundpriset is a term used in Nordic pricing that denotes a baseline or reference price from which other prices are derived. The word combines grund ('base' or 'foundation') and pris ('price'). In practice, grundpriset serves as the starting point for setting discounts, promotions, or tariffs and may appear as either a fixed charge or the list price in catalogs and contracts.

In utility tariffs, grundpriset can refer to the basic fixed charge that customers pay regardless of consumption; the variable part is charged separately according to usage. In retail, the grundpriset is often the suggested or original price shown to consumers, with reductions applied during sales that bring the final price below the grundpriset. In procurement and auctions, the term can be used to describe a baseline price used to evaluate bids or to anchor negotiations, though precise meanings vary by country or sector.

The concept is related to but distinct from terms such as list price, introductory price, and sale price. Whereas the grundpriset provides a reference level, the actual price paid can be influenced by promotions, contractual terms, taxes, and fees. Critics note that the use of a grundpriset can obscure the true cost to consumers unless final prices are clearly disclosed.
