Greenling
Greenling is a common name that can refer to several different species of fish, primarily within the family Hexagrammidae. The most widely recognized greenling is the kelp greenling (Hexagrammos stellaris). These fish are found in the North Pacific Ocean, inhabiting rocky reefs and kelp forests from Alaska down to California. They are typically greenish-brown to olive in color, often with spots or bars, and can grow up to about 30 inches in length. Kelp greenling are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of small invertebrates, algae, and smaller fish. They are an important part of the nearshore marine ecosystem.
