Grampositiivsetel
Grampositiivsetel is a term used in microbiology to describe bacteria that retain a crystal violet stain during the Gram staining procedure. This characteristic is due to the unique structure of their cell wall, which is primarily composed of a thick layer of peptidoglycan. This thick peptidoglycan layer readily absorbs and retains the crystal violet-iodine complex, preventing it from being decolorized by alcohol or acetone. In contrast, Gram-negative bacteria have a thinner peptidoglycan layer and an outer membrane, which allows the decolorizing agent to wash away the crystal violet, making them appear pink or red after counterstaining with safranin.
The Gram stain is a fundamental differential staining technique used to classify bacteria into two major groups.
