Gproteinköt, often referred to as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), represent a large family of cell surface receptors that play a crucial role in signal transduction. These proteins are involved in a vast array of physiological processes, including vision, smell, taste, and neurotransmission. When a ligand, such as a hormone or neurotransmitter, binds to a GPCR, it triggers a conformational change in the receptor. This change then activates an associated intracellular G protein, which is a heterotrimeric protein composed of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits.
