Goldfield

Goldfield is a ghost town in Nye County, Nevada, United States. It was founded in 1902 after gold was discovered in the area. The town quickly grew and by 1906, it had a population of over 20,000 people and was the largest city in Nevada. The town was known for its booming gold mines, saloons, and brothels.

The decline of Goldfield began in 1907 when the rich ore veins started to play out. The town experienced a series of fires that destroyed many of its buildings. By 1910, the population had dwindled to a few thousand. The final blow came in 1911 when the main mining company, the Combination Mine, closed down.

Today, Goldfield is a shadow of its former self. Many of the original buildings have collapsed or been salvaged for materials. The town is home to a small population and its economy relies on tourism. Visitors can explore the remnants of its past, including the historic Goldfield Hotel and the town's cemetery. The Goldfield Historical Society works to preserve what remains of the town's heritage. The area is also known for its high desert landscape and its dark night skies, attracting stargazers.
