Goideliset

Goideliset is a term that has appeared in linguistic and cultural discussions to describe a label for individuals or groups who advocate for the promotion, preservation, or revival of Goidelic languages—Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx—and their associated cultures. It is not an established organization or widely recognized movement, and usage remains sporadic and vary in definition across sources.

The etymology is not settled. It appears to derive from Goidelic, the term for the Goidelic branch of the Celtic language family, with a suffix that forms collective nouns. Some authors treat goideliset as a descriptive, not a normative, label.

In practice, referents in discussions may include language activists, educators, policymakers, or community groups engaged in language maintenance, standardization, or education projects. The term is usually encountered in analyses of language ideologies and identity construction rather than as a description of a formal entity.

Critically, goideliset is not universally accepted and has limited currency. Some scholars use it to illuminate tensions between language preservation goals and political or cultural nationalisms; others caution that the term risks over-generalization or obscuring the diverse aims of Goidelic-language communities.
