Glyseridiryhmät refers to compounds derived from glycerol, a simple triol. In organic chemistry and biochemistry, the term typically denotes esters of glycerol, particularly triglycerides, which are the main components of fats and oils in living organisms. These molecules consist of a glycerol backbone esterified with three fatty acid chains. The specific fatty acids attached determine the physical and chemical properties of the resulting triglyceride, such as its melting point and saturation level.

Triglycerides are a primary form of energy storage in animals and plants. They are hydrophobic and can be stored efficiently in adipose tissue. The breakdown of triglycerides through hydrolysis yields glycerol and free fatty acids, which can then be metabolized for energy.
