Glykolyyttinen
Glykolyyttinen refers to processes or substances related to glycolysis. Glycolysis itself is a fundamental metabolic pathway that occurs in nearly all living organisms. It is the first stage of cellular respiration and involves the breakdown of glucose, a six-carbon sugar, into two molecules of pyruvate, a three-carbon compound. This process generates a small amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the primary energy currency of the cell, and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), an electron carrier.
The term "glykolyyttinen" can be used to describe enzymes involved in glycolysis, such as glycolytic enzymes.
