Glutationowy

Glutationowy is an adjective in Polish derived from glutathione (GSH). It is used to describe anything relating to glutathione—the tripeptide antioxidant involved in cellular redox balance, detoxification, and metabolism. In scientific Polish texts, terms such as szlak glutationowy, system glutationowy, or reakcje glutationowe are common when discussing processes linked to this molecule.

Glutathione is a small tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It exists primarily in its reduced form, GSH, which neutralizes reactive oxygen species and helps maintain thiol groups in proteins. In reactions, GSH donates electrons and becomes oxidized to GSSG, which can be reduced back to GSH by glutathione reductase, preserving the intracellular redox balance. Glutationowy may describe enzymes, pathways, and functions related to glutathione, including synthesis in cells via gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (syntetaza gamma-glutamylocysteinowa) and glutathione synthetase (syntetaza glutationowa), the gamma-glutamyl cycle, conjugation reactions catalyzed by glutathione S-transferases, and transport/uptake mechanisms. However, claims about health benefits should be evaluated critically, as bioavailability and efficacy vary by formulation and context. The term glutationowy thus serves as a neutral linguistic label for anything pertaining to glutathione.
