Rudolph William Giuliani, commonly known as Rudy Giuliani, is an American attorney and politician who served as the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. Before entering elected office, he was a federal prosecutor who served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York in the 1980s, where he led high-profile prosecutions of organized crime figures and corruption.

As mayor, Giuliani pursued a crime-control agenda that included policing reforms and business redevelopment, contributing to a notable decline in crime in New York City during the late 1990s.
