Genomduplikationen

Genomduplikationen refers to the process where an entire genome, or a significant portion of it, is duplicated. This phenomenon can occur in various organisms, from bacteria to eukaryotes. In a broad sense, it's a type of mutation that leads to an increase in the genetic material available to a cell or organism.

There are several mechanisms by which genomduplikationen can occur. During cell division, errors in DNA replication or chromosome segregation can result in a cell inheriting an extra complete set of chromosomes, a condition known as polyploidy. In some cases, the duplication might not involve the entire genome but rather large chromosomal segments.
