Genitivistä

Genitivistä is a Finnish grammatical case, often referred to as the genitive case. It is primarily used to express possession or belonging, similar to the English "'s" or the word "of". For example, in the sentence "koiran luu" (the dog's bone), "koiran" is the genitive form of "koira" (dog). This case is crucial for constructing complex sentences and clearly indicating relationships between nouns.

Beyond possession, the genitive case in Finnish also has several other functions. It can denote the object of certain verbs and prepositions. For instance, the verb "tarvita" (to need) often takes a genitive object, as in "tarvitsen kirjaa" (I need a book, literally "I need of-book"). It can also indicate the part of something, or to whom something is given or directed. Furthermore, the genitive case is frequently used in adverbial phrases to express time, place, or manner.
