Gemert

Gemert is a village and former municipality in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. It is located in the region known as the Peelland. As of January 1, 2021, Gemert merged with the municipality of Bakel en Milheeze and De Mortel to form the new municipality of Gemert-Bakel.

The village's history dates back to at least the 13th century, with early mentions of a settlement and a castle. The Castle of Gemert, a historical landmark, played a significant role in the region's development. Over the centuries, Gemert grew from a small agricultural community into a more developed town.

Economically, Gemert has a mixed base, with a presence of small and medium-sized enterprises, alongside its agricultural roots. The area is known for its natural beauty, particularly its proximity to the Peel, a former heathland region now largely transformed into agricultural land and nature reserves.
