Gehirnoberfläche, also known as the cerebral cortex, is the outer layer of the cerebrum, the largest part of the brain. It is a convoluted sheet of neural tissue, approximately 2-4 millimeters thick, that plays a crucial role in higher-level cognitive functions. The surface is characterized by folds, called gyri, and grooves, called sulci, which greatly increase the surface area available for neurons. This increased surface area is thought to be essential for the complex processing capabilities of the human brain.
