Gastrointestinálne

Gastrointestinálne refers to the organs of the digestive system, also known as the gastrointestinal tract. This system is responsible for breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste. It begins with the mouth, where food is ingested and mechanically and chemically broken down. From the mouth, food travels down the esophagus to the stomach, a muscular organ that further digests food with acids and enzymes.

Following the stomach, food enters the small intestine, a long, coiled tube where most nutrient absorption occurs. The small intestine is divided into three parts: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Bile from the liver and gallbladder, along with digestive enzymes from the pancreas, are released into the duodenum to aid in digestion. The large intestine, also known as the colon, follows the small intestine. Its primary role is to absorb water and electrolytes from the remaining indigestible food matter and to form and store feces. The rectum and anus are the final parts of the gastrointestinal tract, responsible for the elimination of waste from the body. Diseases and conditions affecting these organs are often referred to as gastrointestinal disorders.
