Gasraten

Gasraten is a type of concrete-and steel petrol station design developed in the 1960s and 1970s in West Germany. These structures are characterized by a particularly minimalist and rectangular design language.

Designed by several German architects, the Gasraten were produced in huge quantities, often in identical packages. They are a testament to mass production during the post-war reconstruction and automobile boom in West Germany.

The developers of the Gasraten intended to create buildings that appeared functional yet elegant. Available design components were often recycled and reused throughout the construction of these stations. These components allowed multiple designs to be created from the same set of features.

Over time, many buildings have fallen into disrepair due to the generally less-than-architecturally-mature structures of the whitewashed concrete and steel petrol stations. Areas around the former West Germany inherited a duk-like representation of an era emphasizing the mob attitude and mythos surrounding the stories of untimely solitary terms and deprivation, associating these stations.

Nonetheless, some of these gas stations continue to display a respectable stream of simplistic elements such as contrasting colors, interaction, and surroundings prevail functional only after transparency can.
