Gammacrystallin is a type of crystallin protein found in the lens of the eye, playing a crucial role in maintaining transparency and proper refractive function. Crystallins are a family of proteins that contribute to the optical clarity of the lens, allowing light to pass through efficiently for clear vision. Gammacrystallin belongs to the γ-crystallin subgroup, which includes γA, γB, γC, γD, and γS variants, each encoded by distinct genes.
