GRWteorien

GRWteorien, also known as the GRW theory, is a dynamical collapse model of quantum mechanics. Developed by George Sudarshan, L. Diosi, and Pawel Pejov, it proposes a modification to the standard Schrödinger equation that introduces spontaneous, random collapses of quantum wave functions. Unlike the Copenhagen interpretation, which posits that collapse occurs only upon measurement, the GRW theory suggests that these collapses happen continuously and independently of any observer.

The theory introduces a fundamental length scale and a coupling constant that determine the frequency and intensity of these spontaneous collapses. For microscopic particles, the collapse rate is extremely low, meaning their wave functions remain coherent for long periods, consistent with quantum phenomena like superposition. However, for macroscopic objects, composed of a vast number of particles, the cumulative effect of these collapses becomes significant, leading to a rapid transition from superposition to a definite classical state. This provides a potential explanation for the quantum-to-classical transition.

GRW theory aims to resolve the measurement problem in quantum mechanics by offering a deterministic evolution for the wave function, albeit one that includes random, spontaneous changes. While it aligns with many experimental observations, distinguishing it definitively from other interpretations of quantum mechanics remains an ongoing area of research. Experimental efforts are underway to find observable signatures that could support or refute the GRW theory.
