GPUvesijäähdytys, which translates to GPU water cooling, refers to a specialized cooling solution for graphics processing units (GPUs) that utilizes a liquid-based system instead of traditional air cooling. This method is typically employed by enthusiasts and professionals seeking to achieve lower operating temperatures for their GPUs, which can lead to improved performance, increased stability, and a longer lifespan for the component.

The core components of a GPU water cooling system include a water block that attaches directly to the GPU's heatsink, a pump to circulate the liquid, a radiator to dissipate heat from the liquid into the air, and tubing to connect these parts. The liquid, usually a mixture of distilled water and additives to prevent corrosion and algae growth, absorbs heat from the GPU via the water block and is then pumped to the radiator where it is cooled before returning to the water block.

Compared to air cooling, GPU water cooling systems can offer significantly better thermal dissipation. This allows GPUs to maintain higher clock speeds for longer periods without thermal throttling, potentially unlocking more performance. Additionally, water cooling systems are generally quieter than high-performance air coolers, as the fans on the radiator can often operate at lower speeds. The setup and maintenance, however, are more complex and can be more expensive than air cooling solutions. Custom water cooling loops offer the most flexibility and performance but require a high degree of technical knowledge. All-in-one (AIO) liquid coolers for GPUs are a simpler, pre-assembled alternative.
